Planning medical care in China from the United Kingdom

A guide for UK-based travellers comparing care in China: discuss existing NHS or private care, understand costs and arrange records and aftercare before travelling.

China Medical Tour helps with non-clinical planning and coordination. Hospitals decide which examinations or treatments are appropriate and confirm appointments. Entry requirements depend on your passport and itinerary; insurance cover depends on your policy and proposed care.

    What to check before deciding

Start with the questions that matter before arranging care in China.

Discuss your existing NHS or private care

Talk to your GP or treating specialist before changing appointments or travel plans. Compare the proposed China visit with your actual local options, not a general waiting-time headline.

    Clarify funding before committing

Do not assume that NHS funding, a GHIC/EHIC or travel insurance will pay for planned care in China. Ask the relevant funding body or insurer about your specific proposal before paying.

Agree on aftercare in the UK

Ask who will review your results and manage follow-up at home. Confirm the records, language and handover information needed with both your local clinician and the treating hospital.

Compare the whole trip, not just a procedure

Ask for a written scope and quote. CMT service fees are separate from medical, medicine, travel and accommodation costs. For Care Starter only, CMT collects hospital registration separately at actual cost and pays it to the hospital. Other hospital charges are paid directly to the provider. Standalone accompaniment is quoted by and paid directly to the companion. Confirm translation requirements and any extra costs before agreeing.

    From planning to returning home

    1. 1

      Before booking travel

Agree on the coordination scope, required records and costs. Wait for hospital confirmation and discuss a suitable travel plan with your clinician.

    2. 2

      During the visit

Ask the hospital about additional tests, costs and report availability. Confirm which documents can be supplied in English and which need separate translation.

    3. 3

      Before returning home

Request reports, imaging, treatment details and follow-up instructions. Arrange ongoing care with your local clinician and ask the treating team about fitness to fly.

    Questions before you travel

Does booking coordination secure a treatment date?

No. Hospital availability and clinical assessment determine appointments and treatment. We confirm what can be coordinated before you commit to travel.

Is UK aftercare included in the China quote?

Do not assume it is. Ask the provider and your UK clinician to clarify responsibilities and costs; our coordination quote does not book or fund NHS or private aftercare.
